I started working in Bishop Auckland Hospital as a junior doctor in 1980, having qualified in Dundee in 1979.

I joined Bishopgate Medical Practice as a partner in 1983 and worked there until I retired from clinical practice in 2015.

I have always had an interest in the management side of the NHS and took on a role as a lead fundholder, the PCG Chair, the PCT Chair, the lead for local Practice Based Commissioning and in 2012 I became the Accountable Officer for the Durham Dales and Easington Clinical Commissioning Group. As the CCG accountable officer we moved many services from Secondary to Primary Care thus providing numerous cost effective services which were delivered in our local GP surgeries. When ICBs took over from CCGs I led the Primary Care programme that delivered Covid Vaccines across the North East and Cumbria and following that I semi retired and took up my current post. As CEO of DDHF I am keen to ensure that we provide more services at scale in the community, we support our General Practice way of working, we support the development of neighbourhood working and that we become a truly clinically led organisation.
